Director General’s Election Bulletin

Dear Member

Following this year’s election for National Officers and the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to let you know that we will have a new National Chair, National Vice-Chair, two trustees re-elected and one newly elected, who will take up their posts following Annual Conference.
Our Board of Trustees is responsible for the charity’s overall governance, policy and work. The Board’s plans and decisions are what steer the organisation. So it won’t come as a surprise to know that Trustees are legally and financially responsible for the decisions they make and the actions of the charity.
Our new National Chair will be Jason Coward. Jason has previously served as an RBL trustee and on the Membership Council. He has extensive board-level experience and has run his own marketing agency.
The National Chair is an active position, leading a large board of 16 trustees and representing the Legion’s interests across the UK and internationally. Jason takes over the role from Una Cleminson, who will step down in May after completing her full term of three years.
Lynda Atkins has been elected as National Vice-Chair. Lynda previously served as a trustee. She has served in both the Royal Air Force and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers TA.
Lynda takes over the role from Joe Falzon, who will also step down in May after completing his full term of three years.
We will be giving both Una and Joe a proper farewell, and I know you will join me in thanking Una and Joe for their service to the Legion, and dedication to the Armed Forces community.
Three other trustees are also confirmed: Anny Reid and Paul Harris have been re-elected. John Boisson has been elected as a first-term trustee, having previously served on the Membership Council.
As you know, the Legion is an organisation of many parts, and I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the elections for their commitment to supporting our governance and leadership, and in turn our beneficiaries and the wider Armed Forces community.
Separate to the election result, Garry Mills will join the Board in May, as a result of an elected trustee having stepped down.
Kind regards,
Charles Byrne
