Galanos House Armistice Ride
The Galanos House Armistice Ride will be raising funds for its Amenities Fund and the Veterans in Voice (see below) initiative. We would like thank RBL St James’s Branch and RBL Lloyds and City Branch for their support in getting these projects “off the ground” with us.
In saying “Thank you” we hope you will support our projects or join us over the last weekend in October to take part in the event.
The Galanos House Team
100 years ago, 11-11-1918, the First World War ended, and a new world began. The example and experience of those who lived through it shaped the world we live in today. In 2018 The Royal British Legion is leading the nation in saying Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world.
The Royal British Legion Care Home, Galanos House’s community; including veterans, residents, staff, relatives and supporters have come up with a unique way to say “Thank You”.
At the end of October, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th, they will be aiming to complete a distance of 270 miles; equivalent to riding from Southam to the Armistice Glade, Compeigne, France, where the Armistice was signed nearly 100 years ago.
“The Galanos House Armistice Ride” will raise funds for the care home’s Amenities Fund, which provides the residents with opportunities (trips, entertainment, personal care support) and the “Veterans in Voice” initiative to further enhance their lives at this multi-award winning RBL Care Home.
For further details on how you can support/sponsor or take part in this exciting event, please email email@example.com or contact Galanos House directly on 01926 812185.
Veterans in Voice
The “Veterans in Voice” Initiative is a proposal for Live Music Now to provide an extended series of interactive concerts and workshops for armed forces veterans and their dependents, living at Galanos House. Culminating in a public performance, together with residents, to open the new buildings at Galanos in 2019.
Live Music Now is the UK’s leading musicians development and outreach charity, providing exceptional live music experiences for people with limited access to the arts, due to disability, illness or social disadvantage. We deliver over 3,500 music sessions each year, via a network of 350 young professional musicians, who have been carefully selected and given specialist training. Older people benefit from the therapeutic, social and emotional benefits of engaging with live music; an experience that transforms and enriches lives.
Lloyd’s and City Branch of the Royal British Legion
RBL Lloyds and City Branch has supported Galanos House on several occasions. They have generously decided to support the “Veterans in Voice” on a matched funding basis with RBL Galanos House. The Lloyd’s and City Branch of the Royal British Legion has been operating for 75 years and is, today, the last remaining “trade branch” operating in the UK.
The Branch is focused on fundraising for distribution to Legion-approved charities that improve circumstances for military veterans and their families. The leadership of London Poppy Day is perhaps the highlight of the annual fundraising calendar.
The Branch also champions Remembrance through the leadership of, or involvement in, a number of events, culminating each year in the organisation of the Remembrance Service at Lloyd’s.
